A Heap of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season

The winter break provide a plethora of activities much better than scanning the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid arguing with family members. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments came out over the break, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
