Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following starting disrespectful taunts directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year career at Elland Road finished through agreement in August.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder

Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
