Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Continuous Energy Supplies to the Indian Nation in Rebuff of American Demands

Amid a unambiguous statement to the West, President Vladimir Putin informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to maintain “continuous” deliveries of crude oil to India. These remarks came as the two leaders met in Delhi and affirmed their partnership were “immune to outside influence.”

A Message Aimed at the United States

This affirmation, delivered Friday, seemed to be targeted at western countries, which have tried to urge New Delhi into scaling back its close links with Moscow. The backdrop is in response to earlier US actions, such as the introduction of tariffs on India because of its buying of Russian oil.

“Russia is a reliable source of oil and gas and everything needed for the advancement of India’s energy sector,” he stated. “Russia is prepared to persist in securing the steady supply of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Modi, while not referencing crude directly, supported the focus by stating that “energy security has been a strong and crucial foundation of the bilateral cooperation.”

Challenging American Pressure

Before the summit, during a television interview, Putin had questioned Washington's stance on India's energy purchases. The president questioned, “If the US has the right to buy our nuclear fuel, how can you deny India have the equivalent access?”

Putin's arrival represented his first visit to India following the start of the war in Ukraine, and both sides engaged in a visible effort to demonstrate that the friendship between the men was undisturbed.

A Warm Greeting

In a notable step, the Indian PM personally greeted Putin upon his arrival. The two exchanged a hearty embrace like close allies before enjoying a closed-door supper on Thursday evening.

He in his statement called India's relationship with Russia as “a guiding star” and noted it was “built on shared respect and deep trust.”

Reaffirming Defence and Economic Ties

The meeting resulted in several key agreements across defence and trade relations. A cornerstone agreement was the completion of an economic cooperation programme extending until 2030, which sets a goal to double commerce to $100bn annually by the 2030 deadline.

Furthermore vowed to reshape their defence ties. While Russia remains India's primary source of defence equipment, its share has declined over the past decade as India works to diversify its procurement.

The official release emphasized cooperation in the joint production of cutting-edge weapons platforms, even if explicit reference of systems like the Sukhoi Su-57 were left out.

Ultimately, both nations reiterated that amid the “present intricate, tense, and unpredictable international environment, their relationship stay strong to external pressure.”
