Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
