The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
